With this mini report from the end of August 2022, we show you the traditional “blanket” irrigation, which still exists in the oldest olive groves.
Also called flood irrigation. It consists of channeling the water through the old irrigation channels or ditches and covering the surface layer or cover of the field with it.
They are olive trees of the EMPELTRE variety, native to our area, in the Bajo Aragón, planted in the estate LA TORRE DON PEDRO, at the entrance of ESCATRON, our village, a municipality in the province of ZARAGOZA.
This traditional olive grove farm has a 9×9 plantation frame, with its spectacular centenary olive trees, with several “feet” or trunks.
Fernando is an expert and makes of this irrigation technique, an authentic art and shows an innate passion for the field, agriculture and especially the olive trees.
Nowadays, the trend in olive groves is to mechanize them in order to make harvesting faster and more profitable, but some traditional farms are still preserved.
Our olive trees in Lower Aragon are a good example of this.
